“Steam cleaning” is the everyday name for hot-water extraction — the deep-cleaning process recommended by most carpet manufacturers and the IICRC. Heated water and a cleaning solution are injected into the carpet under controlled pressure to dissolve embedded soil, then a powerful vacuum immediately pulls the water — along with the loosened dirt — back out of the pile.
